Read previewNetflix will stream all six seasons of "Sex and the City," but its creator, Candace Bushnell, won't get a dime. The Times of London noted that Bushnell only received $100,000 for the screen rights to "Sex and the City." "The percentage of women in the 1% who made their own money is about 3.5%, and that's shocking," Bushnell told The Times of London. Advertisement"You know, it's a television product, done with Michael Patrick King and Sarah Jessica Parker, who have both worked with HBO a lot in the past," Bushnell told The New Yorker. Bushnell is now performing a one-woman show called "True Tales of Sex, Success, and Sex and the City."

CNN —The iconic tulle tutu worn by Sarah Jessica Parker in the opening credits of “Sex and the City” proved a star lot in an auction of “iconic” fashion pieces from film, TV and celebrity wardrobes on Thursday, selling for $52,000, more than four times its high estimate. The oyster-white, three-tier tutu skirt was expected to sell for $8,000-12,000, but drew 24 bids during a sale by Julien’s Auctions in California. The tutu “became a pop culture symbol,” according to the auction house, after Parker wore it in her role as Carrie Bradshaw in the smash-hit HBO TV series. The tutu also made an appearance in the 2008 “Sex and the City” movie, in a scene in which Carrie is clearing out her closet and deciding whether to keep certain outfits. The piece was sold with a certificate of authenticity signed by Field.

The two men became friends at Syracuse University in the late 1980s. The hunt for vintage became their obsession. In those days, secondhand meant second-rate to much of the fashion set, and the duo saw themselves as downtown entrepreneurs whose mission it was to preach the gospel of vintage. “The stigma was that people felt it was beneath them to buy something used,” Mr. Weisser said, “but we saw wearing vintage as giving someone individuality.”Their first regulars included Jean Paul Gaultier and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy. Stylists for “Sex and the City” found outfits there for the show’s star, Sarah Jessica Parker, who became a client herself.

This article contains spoilers for Episode 11 of the second season of “And Just Like That …”After 11 episodes of ball gowns and bucket hats, questionable Met Gala looks and so much plaid, Season 2 of “And Just Like That …” has come to an end. In the season’s finale, Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) hosts a soiree to say goodbye to her apartment. Most of her closest friends are there, except for Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall), the “Sex and the City” fan favorite who finally appeared in a 75-second scene, to explain why she could not attend the party. In the episode, which forces reckonings between many of the show’s romantic pairings, Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) wonders whether her relationship with Che Diaz (Sara Ramirez) was “a good train wreck” or simply a train wreck. This season, members of the Styles desk often asked similar questions about the show’s costumes, and ahead of the final episode, gathered to discuss Carrie’s kitten, Samantha’s return and whether the show’s ostentatious looks paid off.

This article contains spoilers for Episode 9 of the second season of “And Just Like That …”Colorful, overflowing closets are familiar backdrops for “And Just Like That …,” but in the new episode, Carrie and her friends leverage the full power of the clothes inside. The protagonists seem to dress intentionally, as if they are aware of what they can say with a pinstripe or pantsuit. When Giuseppe (Sebastiano Pigazzi) attends the political event for Herbert Wexley (Christopher Jackson), the poet embodies the role of the polished artist in a blazer and vest. Ahead of Episode 9, members of The New York Times’s Styles desk discussed the colors, undergarments and pet portraits in the latest installment of the series. Jeremy Allen This episode’s fashion again felt very “Emily in Paris.” Carrie is sporting a beret as she strolls around the park with Aidan at the end of the episode!

CNN —Chris Noth has given his first interview regarding the sexual abuse allegations made against him in 2021. “I strayed on my wife, and it’s devastating to her and not a very pretty picture,” he said during the interview. The women said Noth reprising his role as Mr. Big in the Max series “And Just Like That…” motivated them to come forward. I don’t know for certain why they are surfacing now, but I do know this: I did not assault these women,” Noth said in a statement to CNN at the time. According to USA Today, Noth, who was also dropped from a Peloton ad he starred in, lost a $12 million deal with his tequila company.

In the new episode, the city is hit by a powerhouse of a snowstorm, but the protagonists have places to be. Lisa Todd Wexley (Nicole Ari Parker) is discussing her film at the Museum of Modern Art. Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Che (Sara Ramirez) have to get to “Widow Con.” And Charlotte (Kristin Davis) is out in the snow searching drugstores on a complicated motherly mission to help her daughter Lily. Ahead of Episode 6, members of The New York Times’s Styles desk discussed the coats, patterns and earmuffs on display — sometimes barely visible through the squall — in the latest installment of the series. Jeremy Allen Carrie’s sweeping Moncler coat by Valentino’s Pierpaolo Piccioli is a high point of this episode for me.

Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) was often cash poor because she spent her writer’s income on things like expensive shoes. At one point, she got into money trouble after a breakup and had to rely on her friend Charlotte (Kristin Davis) to bail her out. Let’s be clear: These women were always quite privileged — perpetually sipping pricey cosmopolitans in the greatest city in the world. But in the original series, they had to work for a living, and sometimes they had to worry about money. We see Miranda logging long hours in the office, Samantha courting prospective clients and Charlotte showing the latest art to potential buyers.

This article contains spoilers for Episode 5 of the second season of “And Just Like That …”As “And Just Like That …” nears its halfway point, its creators have sprinkled a series of self-referential winks into the new episode. For a Halloween charity benefit, Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) dresses up as Helen Gurley Brown, the former editor of Cosmopolitan and, in some ways, the spiritual predecessor to Bradshaw. Ahead of Episode 5, members of The New York Times’s Styles desk discussed the looks, brands and wigs on display in the latest installment of the series. This article contains spoilers for Episode 4 of the second season of “And Just Like That …”“Women our age are grossly underrepresented in the media,” says Enid Frick (Candice Bergen), a former Vogue editor recently given the boot by Condé Nast, in the latest episode of “And Just Like That …” She’s explaining the need for a new online magazine that’s “focused on women our age.”For Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), the pitch’s wincing recipient, being demographically lumped in with her onetime editor touches off a minor identity crisis — one that raises interesting questions about aging, maturity, confidence and how we present ourselves to the world. (As Gloria Steinem muses from a staircase: “Maybe the new frontier is aging.”)Of course, this being the “Sex and the City” cinematic universe, the clothes tell the story. Ahead of Episode 4, members of The New York Times’s Styles desk got together to dissect the fashion on display, and its significance. CNN —I am going to say the quiet part out loud: some people very much enjoy drama. REUTERS/Caitlin Ochs/File PhotoNEW YORK, June 20 (Reuters) - Carrie Bradshaw is back navigating love in New York City once again in season two of "And Just Like That," where an old flame comes back into her life. "I feel excited about this season," Sarah Jessica Parker, who plays Bradshaw, said in an interview. In this season, Carrie meets up with former fiance Aidan, and there is a surprise appearance by original cast member Kim Cattrall, who played Samantha. In the first season of "And Just Like That," Carrie is only seen messaging with now London-based Samantha by phone. "She appears in text in this season as well and ... just the idea of adding the face to the text felt nice," Parker said.

Samantha Irby Says It’s OK to Hate Your Body

Talk Samantha Irby Says It’s OK to Hate Your BodyAs far as descriptions of writers go, “humorist” has an old-fashioned, almost quaint ring to it, the literary equivalent of haberdasher or lamplighter. Maybe I was born too early to get on the “I don’t give a [expletive] if you see my legs” thing. I don’t know if this is controversial, but I don’t miss my parents. But I don’t know. I think I’m off the hook a little because my main target is myself, but the joke sensitivity is wild to me.

A drenching is always amusing, but it’s her tutu that makes that scene indelible. The show’s costume designer, Patricia Field, was insistent on the garment, saying in an interview, “Whatever she’s wearing has to be completely original to last in time.”That iconic look embodies “big-skirt energy,” a mood dominating the resort and spring 2023 collections. A skirt needn’t literally be big to possess BSE. But whether maxi or midi, spangled or satin, printed or plain, it must project outsize attitude. And women are gravitating to that, reports Marc Rofsky, a buying director at e-commerce site Moda Operandi, who’s seen year-over-year, double-digit growth in skirts between October and January 2023.

Halloween movies to get you into the spooky spirit

CNN —Halloween entertainment is serving major nostalgia this year, with some of our favorite spooky classics being remade, or better yet, getting a sequel. “Hocus Pocus 2” brings back Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy as your favorite witches to get you ready for Halloween. “Halloween Ends”Jamie Lee Curtis in "Halloween Ends" Ryan Green/Universal PicturesForty-four years and 13 movies later, “Halloween Ends” is back to give you a fright. The movie tells the story of a man named Michael Myers who escapes an insane asylum. “Beetlejuice”1988 Warner BrothersBeetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice!!!
“Hocus Pocus 2” should benefit from that dynamic, delivering a breezy sequel – 29 years later – that should provide go-down-easy Halloween viewing for families in the less-demanding confines of Disney+. Then again, this kind of movie hardly needs to reinvent the cauldron, representing more of a cut-and-paste job. While the not-too-scary hijinks are acceptable for kids, those scenes will likely deliver more of a kick for parents who caught the movie way back when, helping turn it into a Halloween favorite. By that measure, “Hocus Pocus 2” finds what amounts to the streaming sweet spot, feeling just big enough, but not too big. “Hocus Pocus 2” premieres September 30 on Disney+.
Michelle Obama plans a six-city tour this fall in support of her new book, “The Light We Carry: Overcoming in Uncertain Times,” beginning mid-November in Washington. “This book means so much to me — it’s a collection of perspectives and practices I’ve used to keep me afloat amid uncertainty. She will then travel to Philadelphia’s The Met, Atlanta’s Fox Theatre, the Chicago Theatre and San Francisco’s Masonic, before closing at the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles. “Becoming” was a near-instant million seller and went on to sell more than 17 million copies worldwide, making it the most popular book in modern times written by a former White House resident. As with “Becoming,” Obama will speak at each city with guest moderators, to be announced later.

Princess Diana wore them, as did Paloma Picasso, Anjelica Huston, the designer Carolina Herrera and virtually the entire staff of Vogue magazine. The company began in the early 1970s in a London boutique frequented by Bianca Jagger and other rock star adjacents. It was presided over, salon-style, by the exuberant Mr. Blahnik.
